Clothes Moth Heat Treatment

How does it work?

We use our professional equipment to heat up the area to above 56°C for 2 hours. Insects cannot survive these temperatures. Heat kills all stages of the insects, including eggs and Larvae.

Heat penetrates deep into carpets, cracks & crevices, furniture, fabrics and even clothing if placed in the room. There's no hiding.

We use thermal imaging to check for cold spots in the area being heated and Bluetooth temperature sensors that monitor the room temperature.

The building and fixtures are perfectly safe. It sounds scary but the heat is perfectly safe (list of items to be removed provided) prior to visit.

Clothes Moth UK

Webbing Clothes Moth, Case-Bearing Moth, Brown House Moth, White-Shouldered House, Common Clothes Moth

Over 20 years experience cleaning and treating carpets, soft furnishings and textiles. We certainly understand textile insect pests. We are fully licensed to use insecticides as part of our work, this involves effective and safe use of professional products.

Prior to treatment we would advise that any affected clothing is washed at the highest temperature or dry cleaned. Store clothes in vacuum sealed bags. Clothes can also be frozen for 2 weeks as this will kill the larvae.

Vacuum all areas thoroughly and dispose of bags. Make sure furniture is moved as moths prefer conditions in dark places. We will need access to these areas and carpets. Curtains can be dry cleaned, washed or frozen like clothing.

If your carpets are dirty they should be cleaned (optional), and sofas, chairs etc. We can quote for this work. We will need to access your loft as this needs treating.

Killing the Life Cycle

Understanding the type of pest is crucial to fighting an infestation and to eradicate it one needs to destroy the lifecycle.

It's important to identify the source of the outbreak. What attracts moths or beetle (in fact any pest) to your property. Dealing with the source or sources can be the make or break of a successful treatment

Natural Fibres are a luxury that has existed for a long time and they are here to stay. How we store and protect them is crucial to avoid damage by pests. How we clean our properties is so important.

Most people will deal with an infestation of moths by trying the quick fix - buy products online. Certainly NOT a quick fix in most cases. Nine times out of ten a waste of money and more importantly time that could be better spent.

Areas We Cover

Moth Kill work in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Oxford, London & many more areas.

Clothes Moth (Tineloa bissellialla)

Clothes moth are pests that destroy fabric and other materials. The larvae feed on animal fibres, such as wool, fur, silk, leather - that contain keratin. Synthetic fabrics are rarely attacked unless blended with wool or heavily soiled.

Serious infestations of moth can develop undetected causing irreparable damage to carpets, clothes and soft furnishings.

A number of moth species will attack and damage textiles but the tineloa bissellialla is by far the most aggressive.

How do they cause damage?

Remember it's not the moth that damages but the larvae that hatches from the eggs. They spin webbing into a tunnel across the attacked material. This causes holes and patches.

There is plenty of food for the larvae and warmth in most homes! The UK climate is getting warmer and moth attacks are increasing. All over the world!

The Clothes Moth Attack

You might not know where, you might not know when - but you will know. The signs are obvious.

Irregular holes in carpets, clothes, curtains, rugs. Larva casings. Tiny tubes stuck to the fabric. An increase in tiny moths around the property. Crusty deposits on carpets, fabrics, rugs etc.

To avoid damage that can cost £1000's you must act quickly. Very small infestations may be treated DIY but for most cases professional intervention is a must as insecticides available to the public are less effective.

We are professionals and can use insecticides and/or heat treatment safely. Moth Kill uses professional equipment and training to win the war.
