Clothes Moth (Tineloa bissellialla)

Clothes moth are pests that destroy fabric and other materials. The larvae feed on animal fibres, such as wool, fur, silk, leather - that contain keratin. Synthetic fabrics are rarely attacked unless blended with wool or heavily soiled.

Serious infestations of moth can develop undetected causing irreparable damage to carpets, clothes and soft furnishings.

A number of moth species will attack and damage textiles but the tineloa bissellialla is by far the most aggressive.

How do they cause damage?

Remember it's not the moth that damages but the larvae that hatches from the eggs. They spin webbing into a tunnel across the attacked material. This causes holes and patches. Textiles soiled with sweat, food, blood and urine are preferential to moths.

There is plenty of food for the larvae and warmth in most homes! Moths can breed all year round. The UK climate is getting warmer and moth attacks are increasing. All over the world!

The Clothes Moth Attack

You might not know where, you might not know when - but you will know. The signs are obvious.

Irregular holes in carpets, clothes, curtains, rugs. Larva casings. Tiny tubes stuck to the fabric. An increase in tiny moths around the property. Crusty deposits on carpets, fabrics, rugs etc.

To avoid damage that can cost £1000's you must act quickly. Very small infestations may be treated DIY but for most cases professional intervention is a must as insecticides available to the public are less effective.

We are professionals and can use insecticides and/or heat treatment safely. Moth Kill uses professional equipment and training to win the war.
